P3: Create the extract for an original TV programme or short film by applying post-production and editing techniques
Here is the offline edit for my production. It includes all the shots taken in production that I plan to use for my final video with sound and visual effects that are going to be added in post production
This offline edit follows the storyboard with all the shots of the production already cut and in place. The things I will change in my final edit will be adding transitions and effects between shots, adding text for the short film's title and adding sound effects. One thing that I noticed about a few of the clips is that the audio for them is a bit quiet, so to add to my final edit I will need to adjust said audio levels.
Here is the title sequence of my video.
|
To make the title sequence I added, i went into the annotations folder and selected a text callout or textbox, and I then typed in the title "The Uninvited." I chose the font Papyrus at size 96 so it is easy to see yet still has an eerie tone. I decided to use the colour white as it doesn't give off much and is a common text colour used in horror, under red and black. |
After I had finished adding in the text, I then added in a transition onto the text for visual effect. As it is better for something to gradually fade onto the video in post production, rather than just suddenly appear out of nowhere, unless for a specific purpose. I added a transition called Random Dissolve which made the text fade in as it formed quickly from the dissolve, the fade out effect was also random dissolve.

Here I will talk about two examples of how I manipulated sound in my video.
In my video, there will be a phone call scene, I manipulated the sound of the scene where David was talking to Azura, to make it sound like his voice is coming through her phone without the phone being on loudspeaker. The first thing I did was isolate the bit i want to change from the rest of the scene. I then had to adjust the sound so that Azura's voice was around 25% louder than him.
|
Once i had done this I added an effect called noise removal and adjusted the amount of noise removed and the sensitivity of the audio until it sounded mute as if coming from her phone not on loudspeaker, then i adjusted the volume levels again as i noticed his voice was too quiet, so I had to make sure that you could hear them both.

When editing for the title sequence I found it important to focus on the sound just as much as the visuals for effect. This is because the having the music suddenly play and stop just as suddenly did not sound right, so I had to rectify this.
I went into Audio Effects and added a Fade In and Fade Out on either side of the track. The Fade in at first lasted 4 seconds, but i felt that it was not long enough, so i reduced the volume of the audio, and manipulated the audio levels to have it gradually increase in volume up until the fade out in which takes 7.5 seconds to fade out. It was originally 4, but since i didn't need to change the pace of the fade out, unlike the fade in, I simply extended the fade by dragging the marker further along the track and since the music was already fading, it made the edit seem more natural and to have it fade faster using the fade out effect was effective for my title sequence to sync with the fading of the visuals.
